Meet Dan

Lifelong Manchester Resident

I am a product of the Manchester public school system that my twins Ella and Emmett attend today. I spent my career protecting Manchester and its residents, and I’m passionate about seeing our city continue down its current path of innovation and adaptation.

About Dan

Dan Goonan was born and raised right here in Manchester. His mom, Judy, and his late father, Dan Sr., a retired Manchester police officer and former Alderman, taught him early on the value of community and public service.

A proud Memorial High School grad, Dan played football, basketball, and baseball before going on to earn his degree in Public Safety Administration from Granite State College. He joined the Manchester Fire Department in 1984 and, after more than three decades of service, was honored to be appointed Fire Chief in 2016. As Chief, he managed a $20 million budget and helped lead the city through several major public safety and public health challenges.

Dan and his wife, Denise — a nurse practitioner at the Manchester VA — live in Ward 2. Their twins, Ella and Emmett, are freshmen at Memorial High School, and his granddaughter, Everly, is a student at McLaughlin Middle School.

Even in retirement, Dan hasn’t slowed down. He works part-time with the Auburn Police Department and serves on several boards focused on addiction, mental health, and helping at-risk youth. When he’s not serving the community, you can usually find him at the ballfield coaching Little League at Cal Ripken or cheering on local teams.
